Michel Fabre
Associate Counsel
Michel Fabre is a criminal defence lawyer who previously served for five years as an Assistant Crown Attorney in Ontario. In that role, he conducted numerous prosecutions in the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice across a wide range of matters, including driving offences, property offences, violent offences, and firearms‑related charges. He has also contributed to homicide prosecutions as second chair and as a legal researcher.
Michel’s experience as a prosecutor informs his approach as a defence lawyer. He brings valuable practical insight into police investigative techniques, Crown decision‑making processes, and trial strategy. He is particularly familiar with Crown approaches to resolution negotiations, Charter litigation, and pre‑trial motions. These culminate in being able to leverage for his clients more favorable outcomes.
While with the Crown, Michel also acted as counsel in Drug Treatment Court, an alternative stream of the criminal justice system focused on rehabilitating offenders with substance‑use and mental‑health challenges. This experience informs his approach to resolution and advocacy for these vulnerable individuals.
Michel holds a Juris Doctor from Osgoode Hall Law School, where he was a member of the Criminal Law Society, competed in the Gale Cup Moot, and served as a Criminal Law Division Leader with the Community & Legal Aid Services Program (CLASP), passionately defending clients from marginalised communities. He also graduated with Distinction from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences. During his time there, he served as president of an organisation that raised funds for educational projects in Central America. Relatedly, he travelled to Nicaragua and Guatemala to build schools in rural communities in partnership with local NGOs.
Outside of his legal practice, Michel is a lifelong martial artist with a focus on Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu‑Jitsu. He is also an avid motorcyclist.
Michel now practices in British Columbia and accepts Legal Aid BC referrals.
